ABeCeDarian and Adult Literacy

Jo Ann Fishburn, a teacher in Philadelphia, has been using ABeCeDarian with great success with her adult literacy students.  She works with students whose literacy skills are too low for them to benefit from the typical Adult Basic Education courses offered.  She has just made a 30-minute video about an effective model for addressing the needs of these students that has now been posted in four segments to YouTube.  You can view all 4 segments on this page.

In addition to offering details of her instructional model, which uses ABeCeDarian as a core element, Jo Ann also interviews her students.  The students speak about the difficulties they have endured because of their illiteracy as well as the gains they have made since being in her class.  Their observations offer a riveting testimony to the harm we cause when we fail to teach students well, to the resiliency of the human spirit, and to the transformational power of good teaching.
