should use. The assessment takes about 10 minutes to give.
Level A Letter
Tile Sets
This file contains a template for producing both a large and small set
of letter tiles to be used during the Word Puzzle and Spelling Chain
activities. The large set is designed for the
teacher to use when working with a group, and the small set is for
one-on-one instruction and for the use of individual students.
(It
is a good idea to laminate the sheets after printing them but before
cutting out the letter tiles.)
Level A Word
Cards
This file contains a template for producing a set of word cards for the
target words in each Unit of Levels A1, A2, and A Short Version.
(It is a good idea to laminate the sheets after printing
them but before cutting out the cards.)
NOTE: The Level A Letter Tile Sets and Word Cards are for the
2009 editions.
Level A
Blending/Segmenting Supplement
This file contains a brief series of exercises and lessons for students
who know the letter/sound correspondences for the one-letter consonants
and vowels and can read simple words such as "mop," and "cat," but
whose fluency saying letter/sounds or reading simple three- and
four-sound syllables is less than 60 correct per minute. The
supplement is generally
used in conjunction with Level B, usually as the preliminary
work
in a lesson.
Level
A
100-Words Fluency Practice Lists
This file contains practice sheets are designed to be used
after students have completed the A2 or Short A workbook and while they
are working through the B1 workbook. The practice sheets
contain the 40 words presented in Level A that are among the one
hundred most common words in English. Automatic recognition
of these words is, therefore, essential for fluent
reading.
Level B1 and B2
Sentences for Fluency Practice
This file provides all of the Sentences for Fluency Practice pages
contained in the workbooks, but with the words filled in.
Some students have difficulties reading their
own
writing when practicing these sentences.
These sheets can be used in such cases.
Level B1 Word Cards
This file contains a template for producing a set of word cards for the
Breaking Words Apart words in Level B1. (It is a good idea to
laminate the sheets after printing them but before cutting out the
cards.)
Level
B
Letter/Sound and 100-Words Fluency Practice Lists
This file contains practice sheets designed to help
students quickly recall the main sounds for the multiple-letter vowel
spellings presented in B1 and to read high-frequency words quickly and
accurately. The word practice sheets are a continuation of
the Level A 100-Words Fluency Sheets, containing those words from the
one hundred most common words in English text that are not included in
the Level A lists. These materials should be used
after students have completed the B1 workbook and while they
are working through the B2 workbook.
Level
B1
Sentence Chains
This file provides additional practice reading sentences containing
many repetitions of the high frequency words analyzed in each unit.
This is an extremely helpful supplement for students who
require
a significant amount of repeated readings of a word until they can
recognize it quickly.
Level B2 Word Cards
This file contains a template for producing a set of word cards for the
Breaking Words Apart words in Level B2. (It is a good idea to
laminate
the sheets after printing them but before cutting out the cards.)
Level B1 and B2 Speed Drills
This file contains word speed drills to help students learn the phonics
content presented in Level B. The Speed Drills for Level B1
focus on the vowel spellings covered in B1. The Speed Drills
for Level B2 focus on reading two-syllable words, with a few
three-sylable words lists, and one four-syllable word list.
These are designed for use after the student has completed
the appropriate workbook.
Speed Drill
Record Sheet
This file contains a template for a recording sheet to keep a
comprehensive record of an individual student's performance on speed
drills.
Level B - Short Version - Real Word Fluency Practice
This file provides fluency practice for students who have finished
Workbook B - Short Version. Each sheet contains 8 real words
presented repeatedly. Two different spelling patterns, mostly
involving vowel digraphs, are covered on each sheet.
Level B -
Short Version - Nonsense Word Fluency Practice
This file provides fluency practice for students who have finished
Workbook B - Short Version. Each sheet contains a number of
nonsense
words, mostly rimes (i.e., one-syllable strings beginning with vowels,
such as "oan" and "eet"). There are several spelling patterns
on
each sheet.
Level B - Short Version - Podcasts with Pronunciation of Isolated Letter/Sounds and Nonsense Words
The audio files available on this page will help teachers make sure
that they are pronouncing sounds and nonsense words correctly.
The files may also be used by students who wish to practice on their
own.

the prefixes, suffixes, and roots presented in Level C. Each
prefix and root card also includes a brief definition.
