Michael Bend, Ph.D., is the president and founder of ABeCeDarian Company.

He has worked with Jeanne Chall at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Sylvia Farnham-Diggory at the Reading Studies Center at the University of Delaware. Before founding ABeCeDarian Company he was the director of the Learning Center at Claymont Community Center in Claymont, Delaware, where he was responsible for providing a variety of educational services, including tutoring for school-age students and adults who had difficulties with reading and math. In addition, he has been a classroom teacher and a private reading tutor. He has received training in the Lindamood curriculum as well as Phono-Graphix, and has studied a variety of other reading programs, including Reading Mastery and Orton-based programs such as the Spalding Writing Road to Reading and the Wilson Reading System.

He has offered numerous in-service workshops and talks in the area of reading, sponsored by such groups as the Delaware Teacher Center and the Delaware Professional Development Center in addition to his regular workshops for teachers interested in the ABeCeDarian Reading Program. He has also taught reading education at the University of Delaware.

He has served on the board of the Pennsylvania/Delaware Branch of the International Dyslexia Association and of Family Reading Partnership in Ithaca, New York.  He has also been a member of the Delaware State Improvement Grant committee and the Delaware Task Force on Reading and the Delaware State Reading Leadership Team.

He holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and a doctorate in philosophy of education, both from the University of Delaware.
